What is The Charter Professional?
The Charter Professional is YCTA's complete online training program for charter yacht crew — taking you from the fundamentals through to a certificate of completion, with modules covering vessel systems, safety, guest service, budgeting, and everything in between.
Are courses suitable for beginners, or do they require prior experience?
Our courses target those who have received entry-level certifications such as the STCW or entry-level sailing or culinary certifications and are looking to enter the charter yacht industry. That said, the material can be taken by anyone over 18 and requires no prior sailing experience to complete successfully.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes — you must be 18 or older to enroll. No prior sailing experience is required.
What's included with the course?
Enrollment includes the full curriculum of in-depth modules — with lessons, hands-on practices, and assessments — plus an interactive 3D vessel-systems model, knowledge quizzes, downloadable templates and deliverables, a built-in resume builder, and a certificate of completion.
Can I access courses on a computer or smartphone?
Because of the integrated media and interactive simulation content, the material is best viewed on a desktop (using a mouse) or a tablet. You can read through the course material on mobile devices, but the full experience is designed for larger screens.
How long does it take to complete a YCTA course?
Learners should expect the comprehensive “Charter Professional” training to take up to 40 hours to complete, although some may finish in less time.
Is there a set schedule, or can I learn at my own pace?
There is no set schedule beyond the standard six-month window each learner has to complete their selected course. You can work through the course on your own schedule and in the setting of your choosing, as long as you have the required device and a stable internet connection.
How can I enroll in a YCTA course?
You can enroll by clicking “Enroll Now” or “Explore the Course” anywhere on the site. After familiarizing yourself with the course information, choose “Get this Course.” You'll create an account to register, read and agree to the terms and conditions, and pay the course fee using our secure payment system. You'll then have access to your student portal for up to six months.
How much does the course cost?
The Charter Professional is $799, which includes six months of full access from the day you enroll.
How do I pay, and is checkout secure?
Enrollment is a one-time payment made through our secure card checkout. Your payment details are handled by our payment processor and are never stored by us.
What is your refund policy?
Because your access is activated instantly, the course is non-refundable once it has been activated. If you have any questions before enrolling, please reach out — we're glad to help.
Do YCTA courses provide accreditation?
Yes — every YCTA course awards a certificate of completion once you successfully finish the material. It's backed by YCTA, can be verified online, and makes an excellent addition to any midsized-yacht resume.
I have a code from a school or employer — how do I use it?
Enter your code at checkout on the enrollment page. Partner codes apply your organization's pricing (and branding); discount codes adjust your total.
Can my organization offer this training to our crew?
