Frequently Asked Questions

You can enroll in a YCTA course by clicking “enroll now” on the YCTA homepage or in the top right-hand side of the top bar of our website. You will then be prompted to select your desired course and create an account to register. Once you have created your account, you will be asked to read and agree to all of the terms and conditions of registration and pay the course fee using our secure payment system. You will then have access to your student portal for up to six months.

YCTA offers no courses with a set schedule at this time except for the standard six-month window each learner has to complete their selected courses. Each course can be completed at the learners own schedule and in the setting of their choosing as long as they have their required device, and a stable internet connection.

Our courses target those who have received entry level certifications such as the STCW or entry level sailing or culinary certifications and are looking to gain access to the charter yacht industry. Either as a bareboat skipper, or professional full time charter yacht crew. However, our material can be taken by anyone over the age of 18, and requires no prior sailing experience to successfully complete. In fact, taking our courses would be of great benefit to anyone who is seeking to increase their skills in the midsize sailing industry.

Due to the inclusion of various forms of custom integrated media, as well as the interactive simulation content of our courses, our material must be viewed using a desktop (or laptop) with the availability of human interface devices like a mouse. We are working diligently to take some of this interactive content into the mobile domain as the technology becomes available.

Learners should expect our comprehensive “Charter Professional” training product to take up to 40 hours to complete, although some may be able to finish it in less time.

Yes, all YCTA courses provide a certificate of completion as well as an optional physical cert card upon successful completion of our courses. These certifications are backed by YCTA and make an excellent addition to any resume or application to charter a bareboat vessel.
